Over 1700 speeding tickets issued during Victoria Day long weekend
EDMONTON- RCMP focused on speeding, distracted, and impaired driving throughout Canada Road Safety Week (May 12 to 18).
Over the Victoria Day long weekend, there were three fatal and 19 non-fatal injury vehicle collisions, and Traffic Services issued over 1,700 speeding tickets and over 50 distracted driving tickets across the province.
Mounties say that roads in Alberta do usually see a higher number of drivers during the long weekend, but with the ongoing pandemic, they faced more challenges due to physical distancing requirements and using proper personal protective equipment.
They are reminding all drivers, riders, passengers, and pedestrians to follow traffic safety laws and rules, and that road safety it is a shared responsibility.
