Quentin Strawberry
Attempted murder case

Trial date coming for man accused of machete attack

May 25, 2020 | 2:51 PM

Trial is being expedited for a man charged with attempted murder for a machete attack that occurred late last year in downtown Red Deer.

A preliminary hearing for Quentin Strawberry was to take place last Friday. However, the Crown prosecutor for the case, Ed Ring, has been granted permission by Alberta’s solicitor general’s office to proceed by direct indictment, sending the case directly to trial without a preliminary hearing (held to determine whether enough evidence is present for a case to go to trial).

The case is due back in court next Monday, June 1 when a trial date is expected to be set.

On Dec. 2, 2019, Red Deer RCMP attended an apartment building in the city’s core and discovered a male suffering from a head injury after an alleged attack with a machete.
