Road construction and maintenance season in Red Deer is about to get underway.
Major projects for the year include:
• pavement rehabilitation at Gaetz Avenue and 32 Street intersection
• intersection improvements at 40 Avenue and Ross Street
• bridge rehabilitation at 32 Street and Piper Creek
• infrastructure revitalization in Riverside Meadows and Fairview
• water main replacements on 43A Avenue and 50A Street
• rebuilding and upgrading of traffic signals at several intersections in the city
• Electric Light & Power (EL&P) infrastructure maintenance along Taylor Drive, Kerry Wood Drive, 40 Avenue and 67 Street
“We want to remind Red Deerians that construction and repairs to our roadways are necessary this time of year,” said Greg Sikora, Public Works Manager. “Sometimes these projects can cause frustration for residents, but the temporary inconvenience is outweighed by the benefit of having reliable, safe roads in our city. We are asking drivers to use caution, follow signs and slow down in construction zones to help keep our crews safe.”
The City of Red Deer says they and its contractors have enhanced safety action plans in place to ensure work is completed safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. These safety plans, which follow directives from the Alberta Government and Alberta Health Services, include, but are not limited to, disinfection procedures, daily health self-assessment for workers, physical distancing procedures and signage.

Signs are placed to notify drivers of detours and closures as they occur. Drivers are reminded to slow down when driving in construction zones and obey all signs. Pedestrians are reminded to cross only at designated crosswalks.
