MAY 19

Alberta Parks temporarily suspending camping reservations

Apr 17, 2020 | 10:13 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Parks is making some adjustments stemming from COVID-19.

The agency said its suspending and refunding camping reservations at its sites up to and including May 19, 2020. The move is in line with other jurisdictions, like Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Parks Canada – which have also suspended or delayed camping reservations.

This suspension is in place until Alberta’s chief medical officer of health is confident the health and public safety risk from the novel coronavirus pandemic is reduced.

EXISITING CAMPING RESERVATIONS TO MAY 19

Alberta Parks said the online reservation system is temporarily closed and no longer accessible for customers to cancel bookings of their own.

The agency will start notifying customers with existing reservations up to May 19 through a system-generated email. All fees paid will be refunded.

Customers are being advised that refunds might be given in multiple transactions, and transactions may take up to two weeks for processing.

RESERVATIONS AFTER MAY 19

Parks said that additional cancellations, including those after May 19, will be announced in the future as the government continues to assess the health crisis.

CAMPING ON PUBLIC LAND

Random camping on public land is currently permitted, but further restrictions may be announced as the COVID-19 situation progresses.

Campers are reminded that a fire and recreational off-highway vehicle (OHV) ban is currently in place in the Forest Protection Area.

All random campers have to follow the directions of Alberta’s chief medical officer of health – including physical distancing and no mass gatherings.
