Bantam AAA Rebels host playoff series finale tonight

Mar 12, 2020 | 12:50 PM

The Red Deer Bantam AAA Red Deer Rebels are heading into a “do or die” game five in their AMBHL south regional final versus the Calgary Flames.

Calgary won game four 2-1 Wednesday night. All four games in the series thus far have been decided by one goal, with the first three going to overtime.

“We’ve carried the play, the last couple of games especially. We just haven’t capitalized as much on our chances as we would have liked,” said Red Deer head coach Justin Jarmolicz. “Give credit to (Calgary), they don’t quit working. They’ve scored on their chances and made a series of it.”

The Rebels won games one and two in overtime, both by scores of 2-1. Calgary won game three 4-3 in overtime and game four Wednesday night 2-1.

“(We’re) really evenly matched. From the goalie on out, through the D to the forwards, you can line them up and stack them up against each other. There’s a lot of parity amongst the two teams and it shows on the scoreboard,” Jarmolicz noted.

The Rebels are battling without one of their players, Chase Walker, who went down with an injury in game two and is currently recovering in hospital.

“He’s a warrior. He’s fighting to get back on his feet as soon as he can hear, and it sounds like he’s going to make a full recovery,” said Jarmolicz. “Everybody loves each other on our team. The boys really respect Chase and how hard he plays, and they’re now trying to emulate that in their game.”

Game five goes tonight (Thursday) at 6:45 p.m. at the Servus Arena.
