Two injured in head-on crash northeast of Rocky

Two people were taken to hospital in Edmonton following a crash Monday night east of Rocky Mountain House.

It was just before 7 p.m. when Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue was called to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 12 just west of Range Road 54. Crews arrived to find two vehicles that had been involved in what appeared to be a head-on collision.

“Both drivers had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life and then were taken by ambulance to the Rocky hospital,” Regional Fire Chief Steve Debienne explained.

The highway was closed for over an hour while crews worked to free the individuals.

“We rendezvoused with EMS at the hospital to transport a male patient in his 40s to the Royal Alex hospital in Edmonton,” STARS communications representative Fatima Khawaja stated.

STARS was initially called for a scene call emergency then later had that call changed to an inter-hospital transfer.

At this time it is unknown what caused the crash or what the patient’s current condition is.
