Rebels support Books on the Bus
Join the Red Deer Rebels and Books on the Bus for their annual book drive, February 5 at the Rebels game at the Westerner Park Centrium versus the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Volunteers will be on site to accept donations of new and gently used adult paperback books, and hardcover and paperback children’s books.
Books on the Bus is a program of mobile free libraries on Red Deer Transit and BOLT buses that functions to allow passengers who might not be able to get to the public library to access reading materials. This informal borrowing method gives riders the flexibility to take home books without facing possible fines, allowing them to keep books they love or share their favourites with friends or family.
Books on the Bus began in January 2016. The first pilot project of its kind to come to Canada, it started out with 4 city buses. In the first two years of this program, over 19,000 books were donated and distributed. The program has been able to expand from 4 buses to 12, including the BOLT buses that travel between Red Deer and Lacombe, and the Regional 2A South bus that runs to Penhold and Innisfail.
