Ponoka RCMP lay drug trafficking charges

Jan 28, 2020 | 1:22 PM

Four people are facing charges after RCMP seized what is believed to be a large amount of crystal methamphetamine, along with brass knuckles at a residence in Ponoka over the weekend.

It happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 25 when a search warrant was executed by the Ponoka RCMP General Investigation Section.

Mounties say Ponoka RCMP work to combat street level drug trafficking on an on-going basis, and as a result of intelligence gathered, a search warrant for a residence in town was authorized.

“We make it a priority to remove illicit drugs and dangerous weapons like brass knuckles from our streets,” says Staff Sergeant Chris Smiley, Detachment Commander of Ponoka RCMP, in a release. “We are always appreciative of any public information and tips that enable us to gather intelligence and identify issues at the core.”

Police say three of the adults at the residence were found to be in breach of existing court imposed conditions.

Lauren Elliot Curtis, 40, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and three counts of failing to comply with conditions.

Tyler Blaine Stewart, 42, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and disobeying an order of the court.

Crystal Blanchard, 34, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with an undertaking condition.

Calvin Neville Fertash, 49, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Fertash, Stewart and Blanchard have all been released following a judicial interim release hearing. They are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14.

Curtis was remanded into custody and appears in Ponoka court via CCTV on Jan. 31.
