OTTAWA- A portrait of the first year of the legalized cannabis market shows Albertans spent $196-million in online and retail store sales.

The Statistics Canada report shows that store sales worked out to $45 per capita — nearly double the Canadian amount.

The federal agency says Alberta has held top rank in terms of the number of cannabis stores since recreational pot was legalized in October 2018.

Numbers show 101 stores were opened in the province from March to July for a total of 176 province-wide, or 40% of all stores in Canada.
