Removal of deadfall at Heritage Ranch beginning Nov. 12
As part of the Wildfire Management Program, The City of Red Deer Parks section will be working along the lower trail at Heritage Ranch this fall. Work will begin in the area on Tuesday, November 12, with completion expected around mid-December, 2019.
Parks staff will be working to selectively clear deadfall, which is fallen plant material that potentially acts as a wildfire hazard. As the work is completed, any additional material of concern will also be removed. This multi-year program minimizes the risk of fire in Red Deer’s urban forest areas, and reduces the potential of a fire developing to an intensity that would threaten the forest as a whole.
The trail will continue to be open during the deadfall removal. Please adhere to warning signs, and stay clear of personnel and equipment working in the area. We thank you for your patience and cooperation while City staff undertake this important wildfire management work.
