ASIRT investigates Calgary police shooting

Oct 21, 2019 | 6:36 AM

CALGARY- Alberta’s police watchdog says the passenger of a car that was shot at by police during a military parade in Calgary on Saturday has been released from hospital.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response team says the incident began when a 21-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla and a 28-year-old woman passenger rounded a corner and attempted to drive past a barricade set up for the parade.

Police say officers tried to block the vehicle with a patrol car, at which point they say the vehicle did a U-turn and tried to flee, and that’s when an officer “engaged the vehicle and shots were fired.”

The passenger appeared to have a single gunshot wound to her left thigh, while the driver appeared to have a bullet wound to his left forearm.
