Charities announced for 8th annual Spirit of Sylvan Yuletide Festival and Market

Oct 21, 2019 | 6:00 AM

The Spirit of Sylvan Yuletide Festival committee, announced today the addition of two new charity recipient groups to the longstanding holiday event. Current recipient groups the Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Society, Sylvan Lake Food Bank and the Sylvan Lake Christmas Bureau will now be joined by the Sylvan Lake Community Partners Association and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CAC) to be eligible for a portion of funds raised through the Festival. 100% of the profits from these funds raised through Raffles, silent auctions, sponsors and donators go to the named recipients. The event which is completely free, features live local entertainment, a Christmas Market, Kids Zones, Ginger Bread House Baking Competition and much more!

Community Partners has been a long time participant in the Festival as a donator, but as volunteer Marketing Manager Dallas Hand states, “The Festival Committee acknowledges the contributions this unique Association adds to our community through a vast array of support services for any family or individuals in need. Because of this and their past support we felt they should qualify as a worthy recipient.”

And for the first time the Festival is excited to announce that they are going outside the community boundaries and has added the CAC as a recipient. Though the centre is situated in Red Deer, their services span across Central Alberta, supporting over 68 communities, including Sylvan Lake – having seen over 30 children from our community in the first 20 months of operations. The CAC was formed just a few years ago by a passionate and committed coalition group, and included in that group of courageous leaders was Sylvan Lake’s own Mayor Sean McIntyre, who is also an original Yuletide committee member!

Mayor McIntyre reiterates, “This is a very exciting moment, not only for the Festival but for the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre as well. The work they do, by pure importance to vulnerable lives, does not have a price tag. It completely aligns with our goals.”

The Centre was first modelled after the Calgary and Area CAC, formerly known as the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre and provides critical support to children, youth and their families, impacted by child abuse.

Mark Jones, CEO, is thrilled to be part of the Sylvan Lake Event. He states “Sylvan Lake’s commitment, by inviting us to participate in the Yuletide event, allows us to continue to bring awareness about the work we do. The end result helps us create a better understanding of all the services we provide to all surrounding communities. Together we can change the way Central Alberta responds to child abuse.”

To kick off their commitment the CAC is collaborating with the Yuletide committee for “Yuletide SPIRIT Night” on Thursday, November 28th! This ticketed evening cocktail event at the Nexsource Centre, will feature local entertainment, wine and craft beer sampling as well as tasty samples from local restaurants. There will be raffles, a silent auction and CAC supporting celebrities in the crowd to tell the Advocacy story. Proceeds raised will go into the Spirit of Sylvan Yuletide Festival coffers to be split with designated recipients including of course, the CAC.
