Thousands raised for breast cancer research in Red Deer’s Run for the Cure
Officials with the Canadian Cancer Society are lauding the efforts of central Albertans who came out in support of breast cancer research during the 17th annual CIBC Run for the Cure in Red Deer last weekend.
Devon Haley with the event says 668 participants took part in Sunday’s 5km and 1km walks at Bower Ponds, raising $88,051.67. That’s up slightly from $87,000 raised last year.
The CIBC Run for the Cure took place in 57 communities across Canada this year and has so far, raised $445 million for breast cancer research since 1992, including $17 million this year.
With the help of donors, it’s hoped the CIBC Run for the Cure will reduce the number of people diagnosed with breast cancer, reduce mortality for those who develop the disease, and improve the quality of life for those affected.
