RCMP detachments in southern, central Alberta unite to arrest three near Olds

Jun 9, 2019 | 5:05 PM

A lengthy police pursuit on June 1 eventually led to the arrests of three people near Olds.

The incident began in the morning when Chestermere RCMP attempted a traffic stop on Hwy 9, but the suspect truck fled. At that point, there was no pursuit.

Then, at 9:37 a.m., RCMP were informed of an erratic driver near Airdrie and they believed it to be the same vehicle as earlier.

Members located the truck, a stolen Ford pickup, and initiated another traffic stop near the Carstairs exit northbound on the QEII.

The truck refused to stop, and as it left the area, police dog services became engaged, along with RCMP in Olds.

The suspect vehicle then began travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of the QEII. Innisfail RCMP responded by stopping southbound traffic in order to maintain public safety, meanwhile HAWCS watched the suspect truck from overhead.

The truck drove to and through the town of Olds, RCMP say, causing damage to numerous homeowners’ private property.

RCMP then laid a spike belt which caused the truck to eventually become stuck in a field 12 kilometres northwest of Olds.

One male fled the truck and after a brief foot chase, members and police dog services took the man down. He was arrested, while another male and female were arrested at the truck without incident.

Dustin Watetch, 30, of Regina, Richard Mulvihill, 27, of Strathmore, and Hanna Grace-Marie Davidson, 18, of Calgary, are all facing multiple charges.

“This incident involved resources from several different detachment jurisdictions who all worked together to bring this situation to a safe resolution. The RCMP thanks our partner, CPS HAWCS, for the valuable assistance provided,” a statement reads.

Olds RCMP continue to investigate and are asking that any property owners who suffered damage as a result of this incident contact Olds RCMP at 403-556-3323.
