Edmonton man charged in Innisfail mail theft incident

An Edmonton man is facing charges after RCMP in Innisfail arrested a suspect accused of breaking into mail boxes at an apartment building.

It happened around 8:00 a.m. on May 8 when a member of the community observed the incident from a distance and called police.

RCMP conducted patrols and located a man sitting in a truck nearby that matched the description of the suspect and he was arrested without incident.

Mounties say a large amount of mail was located inside the truck in addition to numerous other items.

Canada Post has been engaged to assist with the investigation.

Matthew Thiemer, 31, has been charged with possess controlled substance, possess prohibited weapon, possess break-in tools, five counts of possess identity documents, theft of mail, possess stolen property under $5000, mischief and breach of recognizance.

Thiemer was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded for his first court appearance May 10.
