Curlers McMann, Jones slide their way to RDC Athlete of the Week honours

RDC Athletics is very proud to announce Sara McMann of Queens Curling and Andrew Jones Kings Curling as their Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week.

Both talented student-athletes helped lead their teams to medals this past weekend at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Championships in Camrose.

Sara McMann – Queens Curling
Hometown – Chauvin, AB
Bachelor of Science Nursing (3rd year)

The skip from Chauvin, Alberta, led the Queens to a 5-0 record at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Championships and helped her team win gold after defeating the MacEwan University Griffins 6-2 in the finals.

The Bachelor of Science Nursing student and third-year student-athlete made some clutch shots throughout the weekend and will be participating in the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada Championships, March 24 to 28 in Leduc.

Andrew Jones – Kings Curling
Hometown – Ponoka, AB
Business Administration General Management (2nd year)

The second-year student-athlete from Ponoka helped lead the Red Deer College Kings to an ACAC silver medal and was named to the All-Conference Curling team. The Business Administration General Management student will also be participating in the 2018 CCAA/Curling Canada Championships.

This week, the RDC Queens Volleyball team will compete in the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship in Camrose. The Hockey Queens will face-off against the NAIT Ooks in the best of three playoff series. Both RDC Basketball teams will play the St. Mary’s University Lightning in a home-and-home series and the RDC Kings Hockey team will wrap up the regular season against the NAIT Ooks in a pair of games.
