Work progressing well on latest Habitat build in Red Deer

Apr 28, 2018 | 3:39 PM

The latest build for Habitat for Humanity Red Deer is starting to take shape.

Officials with the organization say the trusses have been put up and the roof installed at #’s 4 and 6 on Adamson Avenue in Red Deer.

The past two weeks on the build site have also been dedicated to the installation of utilities, plumbing, heating and electrical, with Construction Managers Kurt and Vince of VJR Construction working hard to frame the front of the duplexes while the hydrovac is in progress and other installations continue.

In addition, a number of Theme Days are coming up for this year’s Habitat builds, including the Women’s Build May 10-11, Youth Build June 1, Father’s Build June 15, Banker’s Build July 6, Faith Day July 17, Indigenous Build August 9 and President’s Day Build on September 5.

Elsewhere, Habitat for Humanity Red Deer has also welcomed two new members to its board, Sherry Henderson, Branch Manager, Servus Credit Union and Sales Professional Mindy Smythe.

In a Habitat for Humanity press release, Henderson says she loves what she does professionally, as it allows her to help members achieve their goals of home ownership, the same as what Habitat for Humanity does.

“With Habitat for Humanity, it is all about promoting home ownership to low income families. The greatest gift is to see people achieve home ownership.”

Smythe, a mother of two, says she’s passionate about working together with homeowners to make their dream home a reality through design and quality craftsmanship.

“Joining the Board of Directors at Habitat for Humanity has offered another opportunity to foster the goal of building these dreams and I am excited to contribute to the success of such an integral organization.”
