An Innisfail man is facing stolen property charges following his arrest this week.

Innisfail RCMP say it was around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday while they were on regular patrols in a rural area that they noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the trees on Range Road 20 south of Hwy 54 (10 minutes south of Markerville).

Police approached the vehicle and male standing beside it turned and ran. Police confirmed the vehicle was stolen and contained the area.

With assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services, they located the male nearby laying on the ground. He sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

Mathew Newberry, 37, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of identity documents, and three counts of possession of property under $5000.

He appeared in court and was released with a promise to appear again May 30 in Red Deer
