Red Deer area unemployment rate rises in September

RED DEER- The Red Deer area unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in September.

That is a rise of half a percentage point from 6.7% in August.

The Alberta rate also climbed from 6.7% to 7.0%.

The latest national unemployment report suggests the jobs market across the country remains volatile.

Stats Canada reports the economy created 63-thousand positions in September, most of them part-time, which edged the unemployment rate lower to 5.9%.
