Leaves set on fire near Central Middle School

Red Deer Emergency Services was called to Central Middle School during the noon hour Wednesday after a small fire was started in a pile of leaves on the east side of the school.

In a letter to parents, Principal Darrin DeMale explained the fire was started by a student who does not attend Central Middle, but that the student will be “dealt with appropriately.”

DeMale said because the fire occurred during the lunch hour there was plenty of supervision on site and that staff responded quickly.

There were no injuries.
