ASDC-Central Male Athlete of the Month: Jared Howse

A competitive distance runner from Red Deer has been named the Alberta Sport Development Centre-Central Male Athlete of the Month for October.

Jared Howse is a 16-year-old grade 11 student at St. Joseph’s High School and a competitive runner in x-country and track.

Howse is currently competing with the St. Joseph’s Falcons and Red Deer Titans Track Club.   

According to ASDC-Central officials, even as a young athlete, Howse has already compiled an impressive resume in his sport, including recent highlights such as 2018 ASAA High School Provincial 5 km – Cross Country Champion, Alberta Athletics 2017 Midget Male Athlete of the Year – Cross Country, Alberta Athletics 2018 U18 Provincial Outdoor Champion – 3000m and 2000m Steeplechase, 2018 Alberta Summer Games Champion – 3000m, 2018 ASAA Provincial Track & Field Championships – Gold 3000m, Silver 1500m, 2018 Tri-Western Championships U18 – Silver 3000m, Silver 2000m Steeplechase, 2018 Legion Nationals U18 – 4th 2000m steeplechase and currently ranked 4th in U18 2000m steeplechase by Athletics Canada.

Howse’s future plans are said to include making Team Alberta for the National XC Championships in Kingston, ON this November, making Team Alberta for Legion Track and Field Nationals in 2019 and making the U18 2019 Invitational standard for 2000m steeplechase, in addition to placing top 20 in the 2 mile (3200m) at the Simplot Games in February, 2019 in Pocatello, Idaho.
