Rebels’ Anders stands tall, blanks Hitmen in Calgary
On a day when Cam Ward – the greatest Red Deer Rebels goalie of all-time – was in the house, Ethan Anders turned in a performance “Wardo” would be proud of.
Anders turned aside 34 shots, including 16 in the third period, to backstop the Rebels to a 1-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen Saturday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The lone goal of the game came 17:34 into period one when Jeff de Wit tipped in Dawson Barteaux’s point shot for a power play tally. Alexander Alexeyev, the current WHL Player of the Week, also earned an assist to run his point streak to six games.
Outside of that, this game was all about Anders. The Rebels held their own through two periods but the Hitmen dominated the third, outshooting Red Deer 16-1.
