AIRDRIE- An RCMP officer who was injured during a traffic stop is recovering in hospital from surgery and a 25-year-old Calgary man is facing numerous charges.

Police tried to stop a suspicious vehicle in Airdrie early Saturday when it suddenly stopped at an intersection.

When two officers tried to approach the vehicle, the driver reversed into one of the officers and two police cruisers.

The officer was dragged as the driver was fleeing the scene.

A second officer was treated for a hand injury.

The driver fled on foot after hitting a third vehicle and crashing into the ditch, but was arrested by a canine unit a short time later.

Three youth who were in the suspect vehicle were released.

Skyler Stevens-Rose faces at least a dozen charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and three counts of forcible confinement.
