Tip from Australia police leads to child porn charges against Eckville man

Jan 23, 2019 | 12:04 PM

Police say a tip from the Queensland Police Service in Australia has resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old Central Alberta man for child pornography-related offences.

The man from Eckville was arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit on January 10 with the assistance of Sylvan Lake RCMP.

The arrest came after ICE received information from Task Force Argos, a specialized online child exploitation unit of the Queensland Police Service. Task Force Argos shared information about an Alberta suspect who was allegedly involved in trading child pornography images online.

ICE subsequently searched homes in Eckville and Fox Creek associated to the identified suspect. A number of computers and electronic devices were seized and submitted for forensic analysis.

The man has been charged with making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography, and voyeurism.

Police say he was then arrested for a second time on January 18 by Sylvan Lake RCMP after he allegedly breached his release conditions relating to internet access.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or any cases related to child sexual exploitation, is encouraged to come forward and contact police or cybertip.ca.
