Three charged in one of Red Deer’s biggest ever drug busts

Red Deer RCMP have concluded their investigation into one of the largest drug seizures in Red Deer history by laying 50 charges against three individuals.

The multi-agency investigation began when Red Deer Mounties were tipped off in June 2018 about a drug trafficking ring. The investigation quickly led to ties with drug trafficking organizations in Airdrie and Calgary.

On August 8, the Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section collaborated with Red Deer ALERT, Airdrie RCMP, and Calgary Police Services to execute a series of search warrants on four residences in Red Deer, Calgary, Airdrie , and Rocky View County.

Police seized large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine, methamphetamine, cannabis, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), heroine, GHB, more than 200 tablets of various controlled substances, 9 illegal firearms, and over $61,000 in Canadian currency.

Inspector Dean LaGrange of the Red Deer RCMP said that this is one of the most significant drug seizures the city has ever seen.

“It was the direct result of a coordinated effort across several partner agencies, and great team work and determination among our members. It also serves as an important reminder to traffickers that there are consequences to trafficking drugs in this province. Our members are skilled investigators trained in detection of drug trafficking and you will be caught.”

Steve Tuan Do, 42, of Calgary is facing 40 charges, including 20 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, ten counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and ten counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition. He has since been released from custody but is scheduled to appear back in Calgary Court on April 3.

Beau Charles Burles, 32, of Edmonton has been charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Hayley Van Dellen, 32, of Edmonton is also facing four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Burles and Van Dellen were both released from custody and made their first scheduled court appearance today.
