Dead whale washes ashore in Newfoundland cove: ‘It’s not a very nice smell’
LOGY BAY, N.L. — Residents of a picturesque seaside town are hoping Mother Nature will take back a rotting, putrid whale deposited on their shore.
“It smells like a dead whale and it’s not a very nice smell, I can tell ya that,” John Kennedy, mayor of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, said with a laugh Tuesday.
“I’m hoping that the man that put it there takes it away. But, that will depend on the wind and the tides.”
Kennedy said the massive humpback whale was first spotted Monday on the shoreline in Outer Cove, just north of St. John’s, N.L., prompting dozens of people from around the area to crowd onto the rocky inlet.
