Investigation continues into violent assault in downtown Red Deer

May 28, 2017 | 10:22 AM

Mounties in Red Deer continue to investigate a violent incident earlier this month that saw one person seriously injured and four others arrested.

Police say it was shortly after 7 p.m. on May 18 when they responded to a report of an assault that began near 53 Avenue and progressed toward the walking bridge.

The male victim was taken to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP arrested a number of people at the scene, some of whom were in possession of weapons and items belonging to the victim.

Irene Potts, 30, Dustin Strawberry, 25, Aaron Gouda, 32, and Warren Potts, 39, face one charge each of aggravated assault and robbery.

Mounties say Irene Potts faces three further counts of failing to comply with conditions, possession of a dangerous weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon. Dustin Strawberry faces an additional count of assault and failing to comply with probation.

All four accused will appear in court in Red Deer on June 6.

Police continue to look for witnesses to the assault and are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area that evening to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.
