Discovery Canyon re-opening delayed until later this month

The re-opening of Red Deer’s Discovery Canyon has been pushed back.

Originally slated to re-open June 10, a City official says they are working through a few eleventh hour tweaks.

Parks, Recreation and Culture Manager Shelley Gagnon says, “As per any construction project, things come up that are unanticipated, so weather delays etc. It was a complete overhaul of the area, so as we turn Discovery Canyon on, we want to make sure we work through all of the tweaks of any new system and new build to make that sure that when we are opening to the public, it’s ready to go and we don’t have anything unanticipated where we’d have to close it up again.”

Upgrades to Discovery Canyon include replacing the stream bed, improving access to the lower portion of the stream, enhancing safety measures and a number of other things.
