Red Deer building permits see slight bump in May

Jun 9, 2017 | 1:07 PM

While permit values remain down year-to-date, May was an exceptional month for them in Red Deer.

Residential construction permits were valued at $5.8 million in May, surpassing the $3 million mark from May 2016. There were 110 permits issued, compared to 103 a year ago.

Commercial permit values were almost flat from one May to the next, sitting just below $10 million in 2017.

Notable construction projects in May include a $6 million commercial permit for the new Lowe’s store at Southpointe Junction, and $650,000 for tennis court resurfacing.

Total permit values were up from $13.6 million to $15 million.

On the year-to-date side, total permit values remain down in 2017 at $49 million, a decrease from $79 million. Industrial and public permit values remain at zero or next to it for 2017, while there were $33 million worth of those types of permits by this point in 2016.
