One of two men arrested following a stolen truck crime spree late last year has been sentenced to jail time.

Spencer Black, 19, of Joffre was charged with 45 counts after the series of events from December 13 and 14, 2016.

Several trucks were stolen in the Ponoka and Bashaw areas before two men were eventually arrested east of Ponoka.

In Red Deer court on Monday, Black was sentenced to 18 months behind bars minus nine months’ credit for time spent in custody.

Trial for the second man arrested in the incident, 31-year-old Matthew MacDonald of Lacombe, will take place in September.

A Rocky Mountain House man has been sentenced to more jail time as he continues to work his way through the courts on drugs and firearms charges.

Earlier this week Wade Otterson pleaded guilty to several counts in Medicine Hat court.

Otterson was first arrested in Medicine Hat in December 2010 on charges relating to stalking and assaulting a local woman. He was then arrested again the following month for breaching his release conditions and eventually released again. Later that month, Otterson was arrested for break and enter, theft and breach of release conditions in relation to an incident connected with the complainant from the initial charges.

The 31-year-old was sentenced to 170 days behind bars and fined $200.

Last month, Otterson was sentenced to 120 days in jail after he was arrested and charged in relation to a drug trafficking bust in Medicine Hat.

This coming January he will face a preliminary hearing in regards to charges out of Rocky Mountain House.

On February 3, 2017 police searched a local residence and located cocaine, methamphetamine, magic mushrooms and other illicit drugs. They also seized Canadian currency, drug trafficking paraphernalia and a large number of illegal high powered rifles and shotguns.

Ottersonfaces several counts of drug trafficking, proceeds of crime under $5,000, unlawful possession of firearms, unsafe storage of firearms and other serious criminal charges.
