Red Deer athletes receive Petro-Canada FACE grant

Oct 28, 2026 | 11:36 AM

Two outstanding athletes from Red Deer are receiving $10,000 each through the Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) Program, offered by Petro-Canada.

The two local recipients are golfer Eileen Park and gymnast Cody Cyman.

The funding will support key expenses such as training, equipment, education and travel as they continue pursuing their sporting goals.

“The FACE Program has been a significant part of the sport pathway in Canada for several years, with so many Paralympic medallists having received a FACE grant early in their careers,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO, Canadian Paralympic Committee.

“Thank you to Petro-Canada for their longstanding leadership and commitment to sport in Canada and supporting Canadian athletes and coaches – it has made a true impact. This type of support is so invaluable to an athlete to remove barriers and provide resources as they progress in their sport journeys. We congratulate each member of the FACE Class of 2026.”

Cody Cyman

Red Deer trampoline athlete Cody Cyman’s journey has been defined by resilience. After a difficult experience at the 2023 Canada Winter Games shook his confidence, Cody worked to rebuild his skills and mental strength, later becoming junior national champion and earning the opportunity to compete internationally in England. His close relationship with his coach has also shaped his approach to the sport, teaching him to see every competition as another opportunity to show himself what he can do. Now competing at the senior national level, Cody is focused on staying among Canada’s top four and ultimately helping Canada earn a spot at the 2028 Olympic Games. Support from the Petro-Canada FACE program helps ease the financial pressure of taking time away from work and travelling for competitions, allowing him to focus on keeping his mind and body healthy as he pursues those goals. A member of Team Canada NextGen and the Red Deer Golf and Country Club, Eileen’s résumé includes wins at the 2023 Canadian Junior Girls Championship and 2024 NextGen Pacific Championship. Her rise continued in 2026 when she captured the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, earning an exemption into the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton, a tournament she had dreamed of playing in since childhood. She was also selected to represent Canada at the 2026 World Junior Girls Golf Championship, marking her fourth consecutive appearance at the event.
