WEEKEND SPLIT

The Red Deer Rebels continue to lead the way atop the WHL Central Division despite having their five-game win streak come to an end.

Friday, October 16 – Jake Banicevic scored his first three WHL goals and added an assist in a big 9-4 win for the Rebels over the visiting Victoria Royals, the #3 ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League, at the Marchant Crane Centrium. Beckett Hamilton scored twice while Cole Temple, Jake Missura, Grayden Peterson, and Noah Chadi each scored once. Matthew Kondro made 32 saves.

Saturday, October 17 – The Rebels outshot the Calgary Hitmen but suffered their first loss of October by a score of 7-3 in a matinee game at the Scotiabank Saddledome. It was another three-point game for Beckett Hamilton with a goal and two helpers, while Grayden Peterson continued his hot streak with a pair of goals. Special teams dominated this game as both Calgary and Red Deer scored three power-play goals, while the Hitmen also had a shorthanded tally.

NEXT UP

There’s still plenty of home cooking on the menu as the Rebels play their next four games at the Marchant Crane Centrium…

Friday, Oct. 23 – The Penticton Vees, the newest franchise in the WHL, visit Red Deer for the very first time. Game time is 7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 24 – The Rebels host the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 6 p.m. tilt. Red Deer is 1-0 versus Lethbridge this season.

Tickets for all Rebels home games are available through Tickets Alberta and reddeerrebels.com. Every Rebels game – home and away – is broadcast exclusively on 106.7 REWIND Radio and YouTube!

TOP OF THE CHARTS

Rebels teammates Beckett Hamilton and Poul Andersen enter the week tied for the WHL scoring lead at 20 points apiece. They are five points clear of the next closest player atop the league’s points chart. Hamilton and Andersen are tied for second in goals scored with nine apiece and are tied for the WHL lead in assists with 11. There’s still a long way to go… but the last Rebels teammates to finish first and second in WHL scoring were Arshdeep Bains and Ben King in the 2021-22 season.

BREAK OUT THE HATS

Jake Banicevic not only scored his first WHL goal Friday versus the Victoria Royals, but he also added two more for his first career hat trick. The 18-year-old from Port Moody, BC, is the first Rebels rookie to record a hat trick since Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in October 2009.
