Alberta independence leaders say their efforts won’t end with referendum vote

Leaders in Alberta’s independence movement say the fight for provincial separation doesn’t end with the referendum vote in October.

Albertans will vote in about five weeks on whether to remain in Canada or embark on a journey toward a binding vote on secession.

Premier Danielle Smith has said that a vote to remain in Canada would settle the debate and allow the province to move on. Her office reiterated that in an emailed statement this week.

It said the provincial government is confident Alberta will be ready to move forward for an Alberta in a united Canada when the referendum vote is over in five weeks.
