Aug 27, 2026 | 4:44 PM

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings and Queens enter the 2026–27 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season with a distinguished record of achievement and a steadfast commitment to excellence.

Building on a year in which 121 student-athletes earned Academic Excellence Awards (GPA of 3.0 or higher in Fall 2025 Term), RDP teams secured four Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) medals (two gold and two bronze) and 20 ACAC medals (seven gold, nine silver and four bronze) in 2025-26. The RDP Rodeo and Dance teams added several top-three finishes, including Kaybree Zunti’s recognition as the 2026 Canadian College Finals Rodeo High Point Cowgirl with 795 points.

“As the 2026-27 ACAC season quickly approaches, we are excited to continue RDP Athletics’ legacy of excellence in the classroom, during competition and as ambassadors in the community,” says Randy Stewart, Director of Athletics, Red Deer Polytechnic. “We look forward to our student-athletes, coaches and staff building on this tradition in the year ahead.”

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens soccer teams will be the first to begin the new campaign, facing the SAIT Trojans in Calgary on August 29. Last season, the RDP Queens won both Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and ACAC bronze. The Kings will aim to return to playoff contention.

The RDP Kings and Queens cross country running teams will begin their ACAC title defence at Running Room Grand Prix #1A on September 5. The Polytechnic will host Running Room Grand Prix #3 (October 3) and the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships (October 31).

In collaboration with the Central Alberta College rodeo team, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens will host the first rodeo of the season at the Benalto Agricultural Society on September 12 and 13.

The RDP dance team continues to grow in prominence on campus and in the community. The student-athletes will start competing during the Fall 2026 Term.

The Kings and Queens hockey teams will look to build on last season’s ACAC silver medals. The RDP Queens will play their season opener against the SAIT Trojans at home on October 9. The Kings will host the Concordia University Thunder on October 16.

The Red Deer Polytechnic basketball teams will look to return to playoff contention. Their journeys begin at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on October 16 against the Briercrest College Clippers.

That same evening, the Kings and Queens volleyball squads will open their seasons in Saskatchewan against the Clippers. The Kings are both the defending CCAA and ACAC Champions.

The curling team will hit the ice at Tournament #1 hosted by Lakeland College from November 20-22, with the RDP Queens returning as defending national champions.

The RDP Kings and Queens futsal teams will begin their seasons in the winter 2027 Term, looking to earn ACAC medals.

Finally, the Red Deer Polytechnic indoor track team will open the new campaign on January 23, 2027, in Edmonton. Last year, the Queens earned ACAC silver and the Kings captured ACAC bronze.
