Care for Newcomers launch new Language Centre, Spanish classes to begin this fall

“In our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, we reaffirmed our commitment to helping build welcoming and inclusive communities as one of our organizational priorities,” said Executive Director Frank Bauer. “One way we can contribute to this vision is by enriching the linguistic diversity of our community. Learning another language also helps people better appreciate the experiences of newcomers, who are navigating life in a new language and may not always have the exact words at hand.”

The classes are open to any adult and the organization says classes for additional languages are planned for the future.

The new program, organizers say, follows a structured learning pathway based on an internationally recognized curriculum aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

“We understand that language learning goes beyond vocabulary and grammar,” said Language Instruction Program Manager Heidy Paredes. “Our curriculum introduces learners to the cultures, traditions, and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world while developing practical communication skills in a welcoming community of adult learners.”
