Red Deer Lacrosse Association celebrates league and provincial titles

The Red Deer Lacrosse Association is celebrating a season that resulted in multiple league championships and a pair of provincial titles.

The RDLA reports that four teams within the association advanced to provincials after winning league championships, including U13A, U15A, U17B, and U17A Chiefs.

The U17B team finished fifth overall at provincials, and the U15A squad claimed the silver medal following a competitive best-of-three final series with the Calgary Sabrecats.

The provincial titles came during the minor box lacrosse provincials that took place in Medicine Hat from July 10-12.

The U13A team also faced the Sabrecats in the provincial final and came out on top to claim the provincial championship.

“This is an incredibly talented group of athletes who truly came together as a team when it mattered most,” said head coach Scott Parkins. “Their commitment to each other, their willingness to learn and the way they supported one another throughout the season made the difference. The future is very bright for this group, and we’re excited to see what they continue to accomplish.”

Meanwhile, the U17A team, which entered provincials as defending champions, secured another provincial championship title.

For many players, it marked their third consecutive provincial championship.

“This group of players has shown what can be achieved through dedication, discipline and a true commitment to one another,” said head coach Darren Kinnear. “Going undefeated this season didn’t happen by chance. It was built through hard work at every practice and every game. They play for each other; they trust each other, and that’s what makes this team so special.”

RDLA president Chris Mandrusiak said the program’s success reflects the dedication of everyone involved in Red Deer Lacrosse.

“From coaches and volunteers to families and athletes, building a program like this takes a strong and committed community,” he said. “We have fostered a culture rooted in teamwork, hard work and community, and that foundation continues to drive both our success and the ongoing development of our players.”

Mandrusiak added that the achievement reflects the dedication of RDLA athletes and coaches, as well as the strength of the association’s development program.
