Auger-Aliassime advances at Wimbledon, other Canadians eliminated
LONDON — Third seed Félix Auger-Aliassime cruised into the second round of Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 win over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko on Monday at the All England Club.
The 25-year-old from Montreal dominated on serve, firing 15 aces and never facing break point.
Auger-Aliassime was the lone Canadian to move on to the second round on the day after Denis Shapovalov, Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez were all eliminated.
Gabriel Diallo, the only other Canadian singles player remaining, was set to play his first match Tuesday.
