ParticipACTION Community Challenge

Help your community become ‘Canada’s Most Active’

Jun 1, 2026 | 1:06 PM

It’s once again time for the ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

That means you or your workplace can sign up to track physical activity during June, in order to help your community become ‘Canada’s Most Active.’

Red Deer has a strong history in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. In 2022, the city earned national recognition as Canada’s Most Active Community, receiving the $100,000 grand prize. Since then, Red Deer has continued to demonstrate its commitment to active living, earning the title of Alberta’s Most Active Community for four consecutive years.

“Red Deer has consistently shown that when we come together as a community, and accomplish incredible things,” said Denise Fredeen, Move Your Mood coordinator.

“This challenge is about much more than winning a title. It is about encouraging people to move, connect with others, support their mental and physical well-being, and create a healthier community for everyone.”

Every activity counts, whether it is walking, cycling, gardening, golfing, fitness classes, sports, or active transportation.

The challenge also provides an opportunity for communities to win funding that supports physical activity initiatives. The winning community in Canada will receive $100,000, while the most active community in Alberta can win $5,000-$10,000 from the Government of Alberta.
