A first-year teacher at Eckville Junior Senior High School has been recognized with one of Alberta’s most respected honours for new educators.

Kyler Raddis of Wolf Creek Public Schools was named the 2026 Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 4 Edwin Parr Award recipient, in recognition of outstanding first-year teachers who demonstrate excellence in the teaching quality standard.

Raddis, who teaches junior high social studies, language arts, health and options courses at Eckville Junior Senior High School, was praised for his ability to build meaningful relationships with students, create inclusive classroom environments and quickly become an integral part of the school community.

“Kyler represents the very best of public education and the incredible impact a caring, dedicated teacher can have in such a short period of time,” said Wolf Creek Public Schools Board Chair Luci Henry. “The feedback from students, families and staff speaks volumes about the relationships he has built and the positive culture he helps create every day at Eckville Junior Senior High School. We are incredibly proud to see him recognized with the Edwin Parr Award.”

Raddis arrived at Eckville Junior Senior High School in a challenging situation, replacing a well-loved teacher in a close-knit rural community. Despite that, school staff noted he quickly earned the trust and admiration of students, parents and colleagues alike through his warm personality, strong instructional practices and commitment to student success.

“Teaching in a small rural school has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Raddis. “The students, staff and community at Eckville welcomed me from day one, and I’m thankful for the support and encouragement I’ve received throughout my first year. This recognition really reflects the people around me and the opportunity I’ve had to learn and grow alongside them.”

The nomination highlighted Raddis’ commitment to inclusive education, relationship building and community involvement, including volunteering at extracurricular events, participating in school spirit activities and developing engaging classroom projects connected to local history and community learning.

Superintendent of Schools Tim De Ruyck said the recognition reflects the important work happening in classrooms across Wolf Creek Public Schools.

“Kyler’s passion for students and his commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences is evident in everything he does,” said De Ruyck. “He has already made a tremendous impact on students and colleagues during his first year in the profession, and this award is a well-deserved recognition of his dedication, professionalism and care for others.”

The Edwin Parr Award is presented annually by the Alberta School Boards Association to exceptional first-year teachers from school divisions across the province. Zone winners advance for consideration at the provincial level.
