Federal Conservative Party weighs in on closure of agriculture research centres
The Conservative Party of Canada’s shadow minister for agriculture and agri-food is weighing in on the fight to keep agriculture research centres across the country from closing.
That includes in Lacombe, Alta. where a 119-year-old facility found out from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) in January that it was on the chopping block.
AAFC said it would take up to a year to actually close the doors, shutting more than 100 people out from their jobs.
Since then, local municipal officials have pleaded their case to the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.
