Ponoka RCMP arrest 35-year-old man for robbery and break and enter

May 27, 2026 | 3:31 PM

Ponoka RCMP have charged 35-year-old resident Daryl Huff following an alleged robbery that took place two years ago, and most recently, a break and enter.

Police say they responded to a robbery at a local business in downtown Ponoka on Sept. 20, 2024, shortly after 6 p.m.

The victim had told the RCMP that a man had allegedly entered the business armed with a knife and demanded money from the cash register.

The suspect had then left the scene, and officers were unable to locate the individual.

The investigation unveiled evidence that was sent for DNA analysis, which led to an identification match. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for the man.

Before police found the suspect, on May 17, 2026, shortly after 6 a.m., the same male suspect was reported to have allegedly broken into a residence in Ponoka while the homeowner was inside.

RCMP say after a brief confrontation, the suspect fled the residence.

Seven days later, Ponoka RCMP members located the man and arrested him while they were conducting patrols.

Huff has been charged with robbery and break and enter. He was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on May 26.
