Red Deer Polytechnic has hired a new head coach to lead the way for the Kings’ basketball team.

On Wednesday, they named Anthony Skepple as head coach for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

He said he’s he’s excited to join the Kings program and to help develop a young core group of players.

“For [my wife and I], the move just made sense, and we are excited to have an impact not only on this program but also on this community,” Skepple said in a media release.

Randy Stewart, manager of athletics and student life at Red Deer Polytechnic, said he’s excited to welcome Skepple to the team.

“Along with his wealth of post-secondary playing and coaching experience, Anthony has the ability to bring out the best in the student-athletes, both on and off the court,” Stewart said.

Skepple coached the Briercrest College Clippers women’s basketball team since the 2020 season, winning two ACAC bronze medals.

He was named the 2023 ACAC Women’s Basketball South Coach of the Year after helping the Clippers improve to 13-8 from 4-12 the previous season.

Skepple has also coached at the professional level, serving as an assistant coach with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

In addition, Skepple suited up for the King’s University Eagles as a student-athlete back in his playing days.

“The most important thing to me is developing great people,” Skepple added. “People who RDP can be proud to call alumni, who compete hard on the court and who leave RDP better than when they came.”

Skepple will officially take over his duties as head coach on May 4.
