A Cold Warning remains in place for Red Deer and the surrounding area Thursday evening.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), wind chills near minus 40 are expected again tonight. However, wind chills are expected to moderate Friday afternoon for much of the province.

Officials remind the public that extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Residents are encouraged to watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
