Jan 19, 2026 | 4:14 PM

The Friends of the Blindman River is inviting the public to its ‘Our Waters’ event.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, they’ll hold their annual general meeting with guest speakers at the Bentley Community Hall at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with pizza available.

Organizers say community members with an interest in local water issues, environmental stewardship and watershed protection are encouraged to attend.

Those hoping to attend must register by February 15 on the Friends of the Blindman River website.

“This free event is focused on learning, discussion and engagement around the Blindman River watershed,” said Assar Grinde, President of the Friends of the Blindman, in a media release.

Guest speakers and presentations include:

  • How to Use the Government of Alberta Environmental Records Viewer (Alberta Environment and Protected Areas) – an interactive session designed to help participants navigate the Alberta Environmental Records Viewer to find water licence application and authorization details.
  • Groundwater Modelling Study of the Blindman and Medicine River Watersheds (Alberta Geological Survey) – presented by Jessica Liggett and Luis Carlos Serrano Diaz, highlighting recent research and findings.
  • Amendments to the Water Act – presented by Jason Unger from the Environmental Law Centre, offering insights into recent legislative changes and their implications.

This event was made possible through the generous funding provided by the Red Deer River Naturalists.

In addition, the Friends of the Blindman River are also searching for people interested in becoming a board member. Those individuals are encouraged to attend the meeting.
