Fire destroys facilities at Sylvan Lake Waste Transfer Site

Oct 25, 2025 | 2:05 PM

RCMP are investigating following a fire at the Town of Sylvan Lake’s Waste Transfer Site.

Town officials say the blaze destroyed the ‘Drop n’ Swap’ and e-Waste tent structures, after a fire began around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 25, 2025.

However, the town notes there was no damage to the rest of the facility, including the nearby recycling depot and used oil depot.

The town says the facility will open as scheduled on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. but will not accept e-waste and drop n’ swap items until further notice.

The waste transfer site is located one km east of the roundabout on Highway 11A, and 0.5 km south on 30 Street (RR 12).

What else do I need to know?

  • Until further notice, residents should place their safe and gently used drop n’ swap items at the curb in front of their homes with a “FREE” sign next to the item(s).
  • Residents should hold on to their e-waste items until the town can create a temporary drop-off location
  • All other waste transfer site areas remain open
