City of Lacombe and County reveal official candidate lists for municipal election

The City of Lacombe and Lacombe County have announced the official candidates running in the upcoming 2025 municipal election.

In the City of Lacombe, there are three candidates running for mayor including Reuben Calliou, Thalia Hibbs, and incumbent Grant Creasey.

There are also 14 candidates running for city council such as Daniel Becker, Chelsea Bos, Myles Chykerda, Chris (Rocky) Contenti, Scott Dallas (incumbent), Justin (Jay) de Bresser, Sonja Dykslag, Torie Goings, Don Gullekson (incumbent), Coreina Hubert, Neal Philpott, Kim Proud, Chris Ross (incumbent), and Matt Span.

Voting will take place on Monday, Oct. 20 (election day) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.

Advance voting will take place at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on Oct. 15, 16, 17, and 18, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will also be institutional voting in the City of Lacombe on Oct. 20 at the following facilities (only for residents at these locations):

  • Royal Oak Village, 4501 College Ave. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Lacombe Senior Citizens’ Lodge, 4508 C&E Trail, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Lacombe Hospital 5430 47 Avenue, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Meantime in Lacombe County, the official candidate list has been determined by division and voters will have different voting locations in each division.

The Division 1 candidates are Bill Ramsay and incumbent John Ireland. Residents of that division can vote at the Alix Community Hall (5008 – 49 Ave, Alix) and the Haynes Hall (Haynes Road (SE 4-39-24-W4).

Division 2 was acclaimed by Brenda Knight because no one else submitted their name.

The Division 3 candidates are Derek Majerech, Mark Visscher, Paula ZoBell, and Tim Archibald. Residents of that division can vote at the Blackfalds Community Centre (4810 Womacks Rd., Blackfalds) and the Joffre Skate Building (36 Railway Ave., Joffre (SE 13-41-25-W4).

The Division 4 candidates are incumbent Dwayne West and Wendy Griffin. Residents of that division can vote at the Kozy Korner (5024 – 53 St, Lacombe) and the Morningside Hall (4914 – 50 St, Morningside (NE 35-41-26-W4).

The Division 5 candidates are Gresham Veldhuisen, Ken White, and Roger Van Haren. Residents of that division can vote at the Gull Lake Hall (25 Lakeview Ave, Summer Village of Gull Lake), the Lincoln Hall (Sec. Hwy. 792 (Lincoln Rd) (NW 24-41-28-W4), and the Woodynook Christian Reformed Church (40104 Range Rd. 281).

The Division 6 candidates are incumbent Allan Wilson and Michael Byzitter. Residents of that division can vote at the Wellness and Community Connections Centre (4725 – 43 Street, Sylvan Lake), the Forshee Hall (Rng Rd 2-0 (NE 25-41-2-W5), and the Blindman Valley Ag Centre (5202 – 53 Street Close, Bentley).

Division 7 was acclaimed by Dana Kreil because no one else submitted their name.

Voting for all divisions will be held on Monday, Oct. 20 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the locations listed above.

However, advance voting will take place on Monday, Oct. 6 and Tuesday, Oct. 14, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Lacombe County Administration Building.
