Football Alberta Weekly Top-10 Rankings

Sep 9, 2025 | 4:24 PM

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all five levels of high school football in Alberta for the 2025 season.

These rankings will come out every Sunday (except for Labor Day kickoff) from now up until November 2. At that time those will be the last rankings and teams will take this rank into Provincials.

The 12-a-side teams are slotted into their levels based on their estimated school size by School Sport Alberta while the 9 and 6-a-side are one level only. Some re-sorting of 12-a-side levels will take place after the final official population numbers are recorded at the end of September.

Note: games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

UPCOMING GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

4A #4 Catholic Central Cougars at #8 McCoy Colts Friday, September 12th, 7:00 p.m., Methanex Bowl (Medicine Hat)

It’s been a long time since the McCoy Colts warranted a Game of the Week mention. Years of struggle in the old Rangeland Conference have now been replaced by an upshot in the new Southland Football League that incorporates teams from Cardston to Medicine Hat. Undefeated so far, the Colts will host another team on the rise this Friday in Medicine Hat.

The Catholic Central Cougars of Lethbridge have always been a contender and have a couple of Provincial titles under their belt. They too are undefeated so it will be a great game that will start the conversation about who will get that elusive 4A provincial berth at the end of the season.

3A #5 Willow Creek Cobras at #4 Olds Spartans Friday, September 12th, 5:00 p.m., Olds High School (Olds)

Two more programs having great starts to the season will face off in Olds this Friday. Willow Creek was a big surprise last season when it was thought that traditional Tier IV teams would suffer when combined with Tier III teams at the new 3A level of play. Not only did they hold their own but advanced all the way to the Provincial semi-final before bowing to Cochrane. This Friday they will make the trek to Olds who looked good in the spring season and have followed that up with two strong games to start the fall season.

9-a-side #3 Millwoods Christian Royals at #2 Ponoka Broncs Thursday, September 11th, 4:00 p.m., Ponoka High School (Ponoka)

Welcome to 9-a-side, Millwoods Christian. The winner of the 6-a-side division at the Alberta Bowl for three of the past four seasons. The Royals kick things up a notch by moving to the 9-a-side level of play. Awaiting them is last year’s Provincial Finalist, Ponoka, who lost in overtime at the Alberta Bowl to Peace River last season. Quite an early season test for both programs.
