Olds RCMP seize illegal cigarettes in Highway 2 traffic stop

Jun 16, 2025 | 1:27 PM

Olds RCMP seized $60,000 worth of illegal cigarettes following a traffic stop just over a week ago.

On June 8 at approximately 9 a.m. police responded to a call about an erratic driver who was travelling on Highway 2.

The driver was allegedly speeding up to 150 km per hour, almost side swiped another vehicle, and drifted into other lanes.

The RCMP conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle on Highway 2 and observed illegal cigarettes in the vehicle.

“Olds RCMP remains fully committed in building safer communities by working in partnership with our community, as well as through investigative and enforcement efforts to achieve this goal,” said Sgt. Jamie Day, Detachment Commander of Olds RCMP. “Olds RCMP would like to thank Didsbury RCMP for their assistance during this investigation.”
