Advance voter turnout up 25%, says Elections Canada

Apr 22, 2025 | 4:25 PM

Advance polling in Canada’s 2025 federal election is now over.

Voters technically had until 6 p.m. Tuesday to vote, but had to do so on the final day at an Elections Canada office (not a regular polling station). Voters could also apply today to cast a ballot by mail.

Otherwise, voters will have to cast their ballot on Election Day this Monday, April 28.

Elections Canada reported a record turnout on the first day of advance polls with more than two million people casting their vote.

According to the preliminary figures, 7.3 million electors voted at the advance polls in this general election.

That’s a 25 per cent increase from the 5.8 million electors who voted in advance in the 2021 general election, according to Elections Canada.

A breakdown of the estimated number of electors who voted at the advance polls for all electoral districts is being calculated and will soon be available on elections.ca.
