Red Deer Home Show ready to educate and enthrall

Mar 7, 2025 | 5:01 PM

Whether you’re looking to renovate, thinking about your first home, simply looking for a place to take the family for a day, or anywhere in between, the Red Deer Home Show is the place to be this weekend.

From March 7-9, more than 220 businesses, most of them local to central Alberta, will be on display to share industry insights and offers. Belt Sander races, a dedicated Kids’ Zone and a food court make it fun for the whole family, too.

Chris Windrim, executive director of the show and BILD Central Alberta, said the event has takeaways for homeowners and non-homeowners alike.

“I think this event will inspire people looking to get into the market for home building, with having businesses here that can talk about mortgages; real estate agents; home builders; renovators; designers; interior designers,” he said, “I think there’s a lot of experts here that would really be able to inspire you of how you can get into the market with your new home.”

By connecting groups on every side of the industry, including the consumer, Windrim said the Home Show fosters communication and allows both sides to understand the challenges faced.

For builders, he said regulations, geopolitical issues and the supply chain can all create challenges.

“It’s tough, but I think what we do extremely well in central Alberta is we talk consistently as industry with one another to know what’s happening and how we can problem solve together,” said Windrim.

These challenges and the need to come together have especially been evident as the United States and Canada have become locked in a trade war of tariffs and counter-tariffs.

On the other hand, Windrim suggested a misconception of the home building industry is that it’s difficult to talk to the people behind the business.

“The home show is a great way to see some of these people and ask them the true questions of what’s happening in my community and how can residents support the industry?”

The Red Deer Home Show has been running since 1979, connecting homeowners, future homeowners and industry.

This year, it takes place in the Westerner Park Exhibition Hall and tickets are available online.
